On Musical Cars and PFF Camp

Its that time of year again. MOT time, the Beemer went in for a MOT and we had to ask Jules very niceley if we could have use of one of his fleet. Lydia was away in Thiland so we had her Fiat 500 for a week which Is a funky little Retro Type car, its retro styling like the origianl Fiat 500's but bigger and with all mod cons and its a Diesil so it ran forever on a fiver even at todays prices, Lydia came back on Tues and wanted her car back so we had a days running around in Charles VW Golf...Wow i'm sold on Golfs now, this was the same age as the Beemer S-plate with 150+k miles on the car, and to be fair it had had a engine rebuild but as far as I knew the rest of the car was 14 years old.
Inside was comfortable, nice comfy seats, well laid out dash positive pedals, the Golf drives, not like a small car it feels bigger, but not boaty like a larger car, it drove and handled perfectly. The doors close with a reasurring clunk, not a tinny click, I've driven a Focus and Escort and the Golf is so much better.
But the Golf had to go back and we picked up the Beemer, complete with new springs a new track rod end and the annoyng lighting fault on the dashboard fixed.
Friday we load the car up to test the new springs :) and set off for the firsr PFF camp, Orgainsed by Pen
We drove up in two cars, Pen drove ours and I drove Bearys slighty older Beemer, making good time and getting up to the campsite by 5.45 What a campsite, talk about clean, The owner had placed us all together in a little wooded area and provided us with a firepit free of charge :) Our tent was up courtesy of Nicci, Wills and Gary, so we set about eating and drinking. As Pagans do.
Sat we just chilled at camp, Badger turned up with a big bag of firewood and we had a BBQ over the firepit, Conversatons abouded about the Citren 2CV which Pen and Bager had both owned and their tales of owning them...The 2CV was a farmers car, it was built to go over a feild and take pigs to market and the farmer on holiday, so it had removable seats, and would run on 3p worth of petrol. Like a lot of cars I grew up with (Original Minis, rear wheel drive escorts, original Beetles, 2CV's and Relaint 3 wheelers) The sense of fun and eccentricity is missing from cheap motoring nowadays. Maybe its my age but the Souped up Saxos and 106's dont seem to have any sort of character, And the 2CV must be easier to park than the Suzuki as someone reversed into a Sign and then in a moment of irony helped navigate another happy camper out XD
Then for a spot of doing something Pagan, we Planted a tree and shared some Mead in a little ritual. Drank and chatted some more till it was time for bed.
Sunday morning, After wrapping Badgers car in foil....boys will be boys. we broke camp and paid the farmer for our stay there. Breaking camp was easy, Big thanks to Sean and Suzi for helping me.
