Tipping point.

Years ago I read a Book my Michael Chriton in which he put forward the theory that the total sum of human brainpower on the planet was surpassed by the total sum of all the computer power on the planet he called it a "Tipping point" . One of those little theories that stuck in my grey matter.
I don't watch a lot of TV but paradoxically its allways swiched on, and this is coming from somone who in 2005 and 2006 lived in the UK without a TV. And its maybe becuse of that that I have a slight diffrent relationsip with TV and notice things a little more that I came up with this theory.
I think we are reaching another "Tipping point". I was flicking through the sky TV the other day and there are now Chanel's totally devoted to showing "viewer output" that is to say Shorts, Animation, Mini documentaries, Funnies and Video Blogs of the public, Some of these are very professional and are made my media students wanting to showcase their talents, but some are made by ordinary people with video cameras, Lest face it the new generation of Mobile Phones come with video cameras and editing software-we all have the capabilities to film any event and document anything in our pocket. On a similar note the quality of "Mainstream TV" has been declining with programmes being made much more cheaply-the docusoap costs a lot less than a costume drama. And how much of Digital TV's output is repeats? everything from The Professionals to repeats of Quiz showa just to fill the space between the adverts. We have had films like Blair Witch and Cloverfeild, Clip shows like You've been framed and The top 10 Youtube clips show on ITV and C4. Its not so difficult to envisage a future of "Local TV for Local People" With us all sitting cocooned in our homes watching what is going on outside through the TV.
Things like Ipayer, Youtube and Films/TV on a mobile are blurring the boundarys even more.
The thing is TV is allways having to evolve, In the days before remote controls there was viewer loyalty to one channel, where for family would watch one particualr channel all night (Imagine that!) then the remote control came along and the VCR, then the home video camera and now the internet and flatscreen TV (where physically we are no longer so restricted to where we place the tv)
Personaly i'm looking forward to the next step, because as time and the march of technoligy moves forward we are becoming more and more "Hands on" in the way we choose to use and manipulate the technoligy availabe to us.
And this is where its at.
And this is something we can be part of. My own mother is Internet savvy enough to use Facebook and shes a old age perisher.
