A really radical proposal

Grrrrr ranty time!

Triggered from a thought I had regarding Al Maherja. Who hero's reception in Lybia shows that the Govt really made a good call there.

So its about Oil is it, Old rights and the west being held over a barrel (pun intended) by the Oil producing nations? So we have to capitulate to them.
Why?
Oil, one word, one source of energy, because we are a oil dependent civilisation?
Excuse me, but is it the only available source of energy? Ok wind turbines are more of a PR trick than a viable source of energy. But there are alternatives, Solar power (yes even here in Wales), efficient wind turbines, why not paint them Grey, Green, or Camo to blend in with the surroundings, Tidal power, nuclear? the Icelanders heat and power their cities from the earth, Oil derived from vegetable matter, I've ran a diesel car on Veg oil. I've seen a youtube clip of a car running on burning waste matter, and thats a hack by a couple of Americans with a working knowledge of chemistry.

In short. If we are so beholden to the Oil companies that we have to capitulate to them now in 2009 what will 2019, 2o50 be like?

Just over 100 years ago the infrastructure of the UK was driven by Horses, Canals and the Railways, there must have been hand wringers who saw the Motor Car as inefficient, and something that would never replace the Horse drawn Hansom cab. yet we adapted (as we always do). We invented and we came up with a technological solution. It seems to me we are stuck in such a rut with our motor cars and fossil fuel power stations that we cant imagine a way out of it. And without imagination the scientist has no goals to strive for.
