Echo's of stuff.

Echo's of stuff.
So I was talking to Beary in the week and the subject came up of the Hand prints carved into rocks. And how its almost a instinct to place your hands into them. And a couple of things struck me.
One. How we act on a instinctive level, its like pack behaviour which I understand. But if your on your own and you come across a “hand prints in rock” situation then you will do it, or feel the urge to do it with no prompting from others.
Two. How we in the 21'c echo these traits. We have the Walk of Fame in Hollywood where the famous immortalise their hand prints. Is this a behavioural echo from our distant past.
We all find ourselves doing things unconsciously. Certain habits and actions. We look at the Moon and wonder and we know it holds sway over certain women's femininity. We look to the stars and see shapes in them, we all worship the Sun because we know its a life giver, Whether we worship it by praying to it and building a religion around it, or we worship it on the beaches of San Tropez its still a object of worship.

I'm not complety sold on this myth of the noble shaman, one person living on the outskirts of the tribe, in charge and control of the whole tribes spiritual well-being. It sounds a little too much like someone projected the role of Catholic Priest onto it. If there was a much more “naturalistic” way of living with everyone in the tribe more in harmony with nature then I would theorise that what we call today “Magical rituals” would have been much more common and something the whole tribe would have been involved in...in short the magic would have been available to everyone rather than a select few. One or two may have been more adept at using this natural resource, just as some members of the tribe would have been better hunters.
Thinking about it and remembering my “Golden Bough” this is what happened in the so called primitive tribes, rituals preformed by all the members of the tribe. And on a larger scale Stonehenge and Avebury complexes, surely too large for a handfulof shamen to gather for a cconference
This mass action is echoed now, in football matches and rock concerts, Anyone who's ever attended one of these events can feel the raw energy behind them.

Maybe this is how Chaos Magic (or the intent behind spells rather than the spell itself works). Tapping into something, something we know on a subconscious level. And if we are the few that recognise what we are doing...well that puts us a little ahead of the game.
